Directions on How to Cross Canada by Bike
I am told that the shortest distance between two points is more or less exactly a straight line.
Fine. Go tell that to whoever put those mountains there.
It is unfortunately impossible to travel across Canada in a straight line. Because of this, it is necessary to establish some sort of Plan of Action (otherwise known as a route). And, depending on the route that one takes when crossing Canada (especialy crossing canada on a bicycle), the experience can be totally different.
For instance, if I had travelled across highway 11 in Ontario, I would probably have starved to death. Also if I had taken the Argentia Ferry to Newfoundland, I would have been finished my trip 8 days earlier. What then, is the best possible route across Canada? Well, I'm not certain, but I can tell you that the experience regardless of route is absolutely worthwhile. I hope you find my experience useful.
Here then is the route that I took across Canada.
- British Columbia
- Alberta
- Saskatchewan
- Manitoba
- Ontario
- Quebec
- Maritimes (New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia)
- Newfoundland
